Rodent Foster Carer Volunteer
We are looking for volunteer foster carers to provide a safe, calm and loving temporary home for rodents.
These rodents have either been signed over to Raystede and could benefit from a home environment until they are adopted, or they are part of our Break Away scheme. The length of fostering varies depending on the individual animal’s needs but is usually for around 3 months or until Raystede fine them a new home.
During this time, we ask foster carers to provide all the care and attention that an owner would. Raystede will supply all the food, equipment and enclosures that you’ll need to foster rodents.
The aim of the role is to give a high standard of care to these rodents, by providing an environment for them to exhibit their natural behaviours and the monitoring/treatment of their health.
How you will make a difference: By providing a temporary home for rodents in Raystede’s care allows them to relax away from Raystede whilst receiving greater socialisation.
For rodents looking for a permanent home, this makes it easier for them to find them a forever home. Placing rodents in foster also creates space in the centre for rodents on our waiting list whose owners are waiting to surrender them.
By providing a safe, loving temporary home to rodents whose owners are in hospital or fleeing domestic abuse, you will be contributing to their comfort knowing that their rodents are being looked after, whilst also giving those animals time to decompress and settle down after what would have been a shocking and stressful time.
Looking after the animals and knowing what difference you’re making to someone’s life who may be in a vulnerable position can be highly rewarding.
